HOW TO USE THE PROJECT PLANNER.  HERE ARE THE STEPS:

Step 1. Get inspired.

Go to the Boomerang Volunteer Match page or your local volunteer center website to find a cause or issue that you care about.  But remember, you don’t have to choose one of the volunteer opportunities on the matching site.  The Boomerang Service Project Planner helps you create your own community service project; something uniquely yours, doing something you love to do.  Got an idea? Plan it, do it and share it using the Boomerang Service Project Planner.

Step 2. Solo or Group?

You may want to do a community service project on your own or organize a group of friends to join you.  Volunteering for causes gives you a chance to make new friends and connect with people you might not usually hang out with.  You can work on project with students you might not hang out at school and team up on an important community issue.  If you’re a student leader in Link Crew, community service is a great opportunity to reach out to freshmen and invite them to join you.

Some people like to do projects on their own.  That’s awesome. Once you have decided whether you’re going to do it as a group or by yourself, and you have chosen the issue you want to address, you can start to use the Boomerang Service Project Planner.

Ready to let your Boomerang fly?

Step 3. Open the Planner.

All of the questions are totally optional, but try to fill in as many fields as you can. The more you put in, the better your Project Plan will be. (Boom Boom).  As you fill out the form, save it as you go.

If you get stuck, click on the “get a clue” link for tips on how to answer each question.  Or, take a look around on Boomerang to see if there are any other ideas you want to “steal” for your plan. It’s okay to share (steal) ideas here, that’s what this site is all about!  But remember, if you are going to use someone else’s idea, be sure to let them know you think it’s awesome and that you’d like to use the idea too.  It’s good business practice to give credit where it is due and you just might make someone’s day by telling them they inspired you to make the world a better place.

Step 4. Go out and do it!

Raise and donate money, your time and your talents.  Go out and make a difference.  And, have fun while you’re doing it.  Take pictures and videos, post updates on your Facebook page and let the world know how awesome it is to make a difference.

Step 5. Come back!

Did you develop new skills? meet new people? Let us know.  Like a Boomerang, come back to where you started!  Your plan’s only complete when you share it. Share what worked, what didn’t work and what you learned. What might you have done differently?

Step 6. Complete, Print, Share.

Review your plan, check for typos and make sure it’s accurate.  Then, print out your completed plan. Just think how proud you’ll be to have written and completed a successful business plan! Yes, that’s what you did.  You completed an authentic, professional business plan.  Now, that’s impressive.
