1. Why do I need a résumé?

More and more high school students are being asked to submit a résumé with their applications for admissions to college, internships and jobs. As the employment market gets more and more competitive, you need an excellent résumé to get a good job. 

A well-organized résumé is a representation of who you are, what you’ve accomplished and what you will contribute to a business or campus.  When applying for a job, it’s always impressive to attach a professional résumé to any application and to have a résumé ready, edited available electronically so that you can respond quickly and professionally to any résumé request. 

2. How does the Boomerang Résumé Builder work?

The Boomerang Résumé Builder is like a machine inside your computer that helps you put the correct information in the right place so that you can create a professional and impressive résumé, save it as a pdf and print it out.

To use the résumé builder, you fill out each field with the best, most accurate information you have, then click forward to the next question and so on. You can start, save, go back, and edit as you go along until you’re ready to save, review and print.  For tips on how to fill out each section, click the “hey, help me out here” button next to each question.

At the Boomerang Foundation, we live by the motto, “You get back what you give.” The same goes for your résumé. The quality or the résumé you’ll get back depends on what you give to the builder. Give it some thought, check for typos and accuracy, and do a thorough review before you print your final copy.  When you’re finished, go over the checklist to make sure you’ve covered everything.

3. What should I put on my résumé?

When someone says, “Send me your résumé,” they want you to send them a document that includes information that will help them get to know you. It can include your:

1.    Contact Information
2.    Personal Profile - includes a personal statement and a list of your areas of interest and expertise
3.    Work and Community Service Experience
4.    Education (course highlights, grade point average and class rank are optional)
5.    Awards and Achievements
6.    Extracurricular Activities and Travel
7.    References

The Boomerang Résumé Builder will take you through each of these sections. You can skip a section all together, or leave it and come back to it later. For some schools or jobs you’ll enter certain things, for others you’ll choose to highlight different elements.

4. How do I actually use the Boomerang Résumé Builder?

All you have to do is answer (or skip) each of the questions section by section. When you need a break, save it and come back later. In no time, you’ll have an impressive document. You can print it out and attach it to an application or even send it electronically!
